I purchased the 42" mower last year, after waiting for our chepo rider to finally give up. I logged hours online reading reviews of various mowers and went with the X Mark mower. I don't plan on buying another mower for a long time so I wanted the most reliable and durable mower for the money. It took a few mowing's for me to get used to the ZTR controls but after that, its something you don't even have to think about.

Our yard is mostly flat with a couple of small steep hills, which I have to use a push mower on. My ONLY complaint for this mower is the lack of traction when making quick turns, really poor when its wet. I believe different tires would make this a moot point.

Our yard looks better than it ever has and I'm VERY pleased with the quality of cut. This mower has plenty of power and unless your mulching tall wet grass, your not going to slow this thing down much.

I have cut my mowing time to less than half of what it used to be and by the time I am done, I can use my string trimmer to touch things up. My push mower only comes out to cut our steep hills and honestly, no rider would be good for that. This past weekend, my neighbor who has the same size yard, started mowing 15 minutes before me. I was able to mow the entire yard, get my trimmer out, use it, put it away, and sit down with a cold beer while they continued to mow.

I mow an acre and I can get 3 cuttings from a fill up. The engine starts easily, runs smooth, develops a lot of power and cuts very cleanly at full speed (without the mulching kit).

This mower costs more than the ones in big box stores but they are the difference between a common Chevy and a Cadillac when it comes to quality and function.

The belt came off the fifth time I used it and I was on level ground. Then the next time I used it a bolt holding one of the steering levers came out and I had to go and get a new bolt. The blades do not cut evenly when not on level ground. The Quest would be a good mower for golf courses!

    Comments about Exmark Quest S-Series:

Traded in a Deere tractor with a 42" deck for the Quest with a 34" deck to fit through a future fence gate. ZTR took some time to get the hang of, still want to reach foot pedals. Watched videos about a three point turn to avoid divots. I am not little, added 2 more springs under the seat and the ride is so much better. The drive levers were very accommodating without any adjustments. Other ZTRs would not adjust out far enough, but the Exmark has room to spare. I mow three 1/4 acre yards and 2 are a bit bumpy. Additional springs make the ride much more comfortable. After about 6 weeks, the right damper assembly lost a bolt. Dealer made a service call and reassembled at no cost. I had the dealer install the mulching kit before delivery. Mower mulches nicely with minimal clumping in moist grass. If it does clump I just mow over it again and resolved. Mowed 5 lawns before refueling, which I consider very fuel miserly. The 452 cc motor has plenty of power and gets the job done quickly. I mow about 80% of my own lawn and use a self propelled mower for the hill and between bushes. The hour meter showed 12 hours before I knew it. Did not realize I had used it that much so soon. Time flies when you're having fun. No issues with drive wheels slipping in moist grass. Very happy vwith the quality of cut. Competes very well with the cut my Toro lawn mower provides, just does it twice as fast. So happy I went with the Exmark. It cost more than consumer grade, box store ZTRs, but the features, quality, quality of cut, reputed durability and overall reputation made the choice easier. Wish I had need of the bigger Exmarks. Would by another in a heartbeat. Yard work is much more enjoyable when using quality products.

      Comments about Exmark Quest S-Series:

I haven't used the mower very often because we have had an extreme amount of rain since I bought it. However, I have been impressed with the overall performance to date. Although I do not mow a large area, I bought the Exmark because the area I do cut is actually hay not lawn grass. I wanted the durability that the Exmark offers due to its heavier construction.

      Service and delivery comments:

I picked it up myself - the dealer had it all ready to go.

Very much like the ease of cutting height adjustment and 0 turn

Needs gas gauge, have ran out a few times.

The water hose hook up to use to clean deck seems worthless.
