I wanted to get an easy to use zero turn machine; but one that is better made than the ones sold in the big box stores made by MTD. Several neighbors had Cub Cadet ZTRs and seemed happy with them; but the cut they leave doesn't seem that much better than my old Craftsman 42" mower, the one I'm replacing. I read some convincing reviews on this machine, so I shopped it against the Hustler Rapter SD which was in the same price range. The thing that impressed me most about the eXmark was the deck. While both mowers had fabricated decks, the one on the eXmark resembled the big boys' machines more in its configuration. Neither deck was chain-hung like the commercial machines, but in practice I don't really find this to be a disadvantage for my use. While both manufacturers have a really good reputation, I decided to go with the eXmark since it was sold by a local, well-established dealer that serviced a bunch of local landscapers.

Since buying the thing I have been extremely happy with my purchase. The cut is just as nice as what landscapers leave on my neighbors' yards (although not 60" wide...). I don't have a striping kit; but you'd think I did. I get comments all the time from neighbors at how nice the cut looks. The deck stays unbelievably clean as compared to my old Craftsman, which I had to scrape every other week. I only really had to clean the deck twice last season. Perhaps this has something to do with the flow of the deck or something.

The only thing that I would change is the rear tires. My front yard slopes gently. When the yard is a little wet, I have a hard time controlling the mower going around trees without skidding around. The salesman did sort of warn me about this. Maybe I can get different tires for it to fix this issue. I noticed that Dixie Choppers have different tires than other ZTRs, ones that have deeper and wider lugs than most lawn tractors. I wonder if this is why they use those aggressive treads. Anyway, it has only been an issue in early spring and late fall, so I haven't been that motivated to do anything about it yet.

No regrets. I'm a happy camper.

I think I have a USELESS mower! Why? Because I cannot put a drive belt on it, and it won't go! The local dealer charges me $90 to come here and put the belt on, and they do NOT have a diagram! The mower is sitting in my front yard and will stay there.

Easy to use, fast, handles well, even cut quality construction, good design, foot assist makes deck height easy, comfortable ride, great KW 23HP engine, no problems or, issues with now over 2 seasons of use, blade change is easy, oil filter change is a little difficult due to location of filter. Overall great machine. Highly recommend.

        Comments about Exmark Quest S-Series:

I purchased the 42" mower last year, after waiting for our chepo rider to finally give up. I logged hours online reading reviews of various mowers and went with the X Mark mower. I don't plan on buying another mower for a long time so I wanted the most reliable and durable mower for the money. It took a few mowing's for me to get used to the ZTR controls but after that, its something you don't even have to think about.

Our yard is mostly flat with a couple of small steep hills, which I have to use a push mower on. My ONLY complaint for this mower is the lack of traction when making quick turns, really poor when its wet. I believe different tires would make this a moot point.

Our yard looks better than it ever has and I'm VERY pleased with the quality of cut. This mower has plenty of power and unless your mulching tall wet grass, your not going to slow this thing down much.

I have cut my mowing time to less than half of what it used to be and by the time I am done, I can use my string trimmer to touch things up. My push mower only comes out to cut our steep hills and honestly, no rider would be good for that. This past weekend, my neighbor who has the same size yard, started mowing 15 minutes before me. I was able to mow the entire yard, get my trimmer out, use it, put it away, and sit down with a cold beer while they continued to mow.

I mow an acre and I can get 3 cuttings from a fill up. The engine starts easily, runs smooth, develops a lot of power and cuts very cleanly at full speed (without the mulching kit).

This mower costs more than the ones in big box stores but they are the difference between a common Chevy and a Cadillac when it comes to quality and function.

                Comments about Exmark Quest S-Series:

I have another 50" mower which is the same size deck and engine. I was really shocked at the difference in construction, styling and performance. Welded steel deck, heavy duty casters and frame caught my attention from the beginning. Quality cut with speed and precicion. I use the other mower as a loaner and as an extra unit, but I am sold on the Exmark.
