Commercial 30

Reach new heights, and widths, in productivity.
Don’t let its size fool you. Our Commercial 30 mower is deceptively light and easy to maneuver. In fact, it feels and handles much like its Commercial 21 counterparts, incorporating a single-speed transmission and our patented front-height adjusters. The major difference: its 30-inch cut delivers up to a 40% increase in cutting efficiency compared to a standard 21-inch mower—without wearing out the machine or its operator.

Almost a year, I had been reading and viewing all of the reviews I could find before deciding to buy this mower. I purchased a 2015 model. After a month of using it I am able to put my input. This will replace my 21 inches mowers. I used to do a yard close to 3 hours. Now I could do 2 yards in 3 hours. I cut dry, wet St. Augustine and Bermuda mix grasses. Mulching wet grasses is no big deal. But if I take off like 3 inches of grass in mulch mode, mower tends to choke up. Of course that is not recommended. It cuts clean in bagging, mulching or side discharge. I like the Kawasaki engine, the sound of blade engaging. The engine has sufficient power. Of course if you cut overgrown grass it will bog down. The speed is good. I never used full throttle in my work. I would be jogging in that case. The quick changes from mulching to bagging to side discharging are a great plus. The rear height adjustments are awesome. There's no more going back to the 21's! Some of the not so great features are the front wheels. Caster wheels would be great for turning considering the weight of this mower. The front height adjuster is sometimes tricky. It should be like the ones on the rear. Or the pulling handle should be a bit wider so that it is easy to pull up. The engine guard is good only for head on with the brushes or branches. Be watchful of the gas tank. It's vulnerable with dangling branches. The drive bail is far to reach considering my small hands. The outer lips of the deck collects grass clippings. The metal tabs on the bag tears up garbage bags. Lastly the mower is a bit heavy.

I own a small residential lawn mowing company. We mow 30 to 40 smaller neighborhood lawns a week. My customers require smaller, lighter lawn mowers because they do not tear up their lawns. The exmark commercial 30's seem almost to good to be true in this situation. Which they kind of are, I own two Exmark Commercial 30's, and one Honda Commercial lawn mower. I have owned the exmarks for one mowing session now, and have a couple points of concern. The two Exmarks are used 5 days a week during the mowing season. The exmarks cut grass great if you are side discharging, when mulching the engine does not have enough power and will stop if going through thicker lawns or tall grass. But with the side discharge shoot the mower cuts great.

My main complaint is with the transmission, the gear transmission is terrible. I have had both transmissions worked on and I have had to replace one completely. After the first two weeks of use the transmission starts to become less responsive, slower, and losses power. My Honda that I have had for two and a half mowing seasons has a Hydrostatic transmission which works great day in and day out. If Exmark would put a hydrostatic transmission in like Honda does I would buy at least 2 more Commercial 30's, but the current transmission really brings the Exmark down to 3 stars.

I would recommend this mower because of the engine, and cut quality. If Exmark put a more reliable transmission in I would rate this mower 5 stars. Exmark makes a good mower, and the commercial 30 works good for small yards. It is a good lawn mower if you run a small commercial lawn mowing company or are a home owner mowing small to medium lawns.

Comments about Exmark Commercial 30:

I own two Exmark 30's, one purchased in May 2013 (Currently 200 hours) and the second purchased June 2014 (Currently 100 hours). I lease these mowers to my teenage kids who mow around 40-50 "20 minute" lawns with them and the kids and mowers do a great job. Our business is growing thanks to these mowers. They are both equipped with Tiny Tachs for billing purposes. After using the older mower for a while, we realized that it was not filling the bag completely so I tightened the governor to get around 3400 no load RPM. This helped performance a lot, so when I purchased the second unit I did the same thing to improve performance. They both came stock running around 3200 RPM. I would agree that they are not overpowered but increasing the no load RPM to near the 3500 recommended in the manual definitely helps. The older unit's transmission was very weak toward the end of last season, so my dealer replaced it at no cost to me. My understanding is that Exmark now offers a two year warranty on the transmission and so far we have not had trouble with the newer unit. If the transmission held up better and it had a little more power, I would definitely give this mower a 5 star rating. Regardless, it is the best mower we have found for small lawns and demanding customers.

Comments about Exmark Commercial 30:

Bought this more because I have quite a few yards I can't get my 48" into the back yards. This mower works just great. No need to have two cheaper mowers taking space on the truck and trailer. It is very easy to switch between bagging, mulching or side discharge. Made my guys more productive. Very happy with the unit.

Service and delivery comments:

My dealer was very helpful and professional. They didn't have one in stock but was able to get me one with in a day and they set it up for me and installed a tiny tac for me as well. Very happy purchase.

    Comments about Exmark Commercial 30:

Our eXmark, has performed above our expectations. We feel that this machine certainly lives up to the hype of a commercial grade mower in a residential setting. Once you get used to maneuverability with the eXmark, since it is larger and heavier than a normal mower, the machine performs as it should.

Don't let the size fool you. Powerful mower. 180cc engine. Same blade tip speed as your bigger commercial mowers. Fits in back yards with small gates. You can bag, mulch or side discharge. I really like the way you adjust the wheel height for desired cut. A little expensive though would be the only discouragement. Used for one season and plan on many more. I mow 23 residential yards and use this for trim work or yards with smaller gates. Not my primary mower but a great addition.

I own two of these mowers and me and my crew love them. I love them because my guys get the mowing out of the way faster and they can focus on other aspects of the yard. My guys love them because they are just as easy to use as the 21's but get the job done alot faster.

          Comments about Exmark Commercial 30:

I cut (and bag) a half acre of grass and my 21" Snapper was taking a long time. I wanted something bigger but did not want a rider. I have some soft areas in my yard and did not want a lot of weight creating ruts over time. My local Exmark dealer dropped off the Commercial 30 for a demo and my mowing time was cut in half without compromising quality. The finished product is very important to me. At first I was concerned that the machine was going to be difficult to maneuver because it does not turn easily until the self-propel is engaged. It is as agile as my Snapper 21" I owned previously and the Lawn Boy 21" prior to that. The only negative I have, and this is nit-picking, but I wish it had a little more power. If the grass is wet (morning dew) it bogs down a little when trying to bag the clippings, but in all fairness those couple occasions are when the lawn has grown a little longer than it should be between cuttings. I would purchase this mower again--you get what you pay for.
