Comments about Exmark Commercial 21 X-Series:

Poor design. Engine failed after 2 years, did not mulch at with the blades that orignially shipped with machine the dealer replaced it for free in 2 months. Now I have a machine that does not start after 2 seasons, not what you expect for a $1400 mower. You wont be able to remove the carburetor unless you take it to dealer and spend $350.

Great Bagging Mower

Comments about Exmark Commercial 21 X-Series:

I bought my Exmark 21" Commercial X Series unit in 2013 and have used it for 2 years in my part time lawn business. As a bagger, it is exceptional. It will suck up wet grass, tall grass, overgrown grass, leaves etc. with ease and very little gets stuck underneath the deck. Unfortunately, when attempting to mulch, it doesn't perform quite well as it leaves a lot of clumps. The engine doesn't sound like it can keep the blade spinning fast enough to cut the grass into fine clippingw. The other drawbacks I've found with the mower are:
    1. The drive belts seem to get loose quite frequently, especially if it's wet when you're mowing. It's easy to tighten them but it's annoying to loose speed when you're trying to get through your day.
    2. The kawasaki engine is powerful and great on gas but somewhat tempermental when you try to start it up in cold weather towards the end of the season.
    3. The bag never sits tightly against the frame of the mower. As a result, leaves, grass etc. can escape when bagging. A bungee cord fixed that.
    4. The cutting heights on the machine seem to be inaccurate. I first set the cutting height at 2.5". Yet, the cut appeared to be more at the 2.75 to 3" mark. This cutting height resulted in a lot of stragglers being left. Since then, I lowered the cutting height on the unit to 2" but it really seems like that's about 2.5" in real life. That has eliminated the straggler issue I had.

Overall, it's a wonderful mower if you bag only. I was thinking of trying out the new toro 21" for mulching purposes but I'm not sure how well they work.

Comments about Exmark Commercial 21 X-Series:

I have a 2014 Toro commercial that is an incredible mulcher but is not the best handling mower. It was my hope that buying the 2014 Exmark that I would get the best of both Worlds. I based this on both are the same company.
If you are bagging or cutting warm season grass you cannot go wrong. For me I will have to take a financial loss and sell my Exmark because 100% of my lawns I mulch and purchase another Toro.
My dream 21" mower is the cut quality of a Toro and the handling of an Exmark!

Comments about Exmark Commercial 21 X-Series:

The mower is the best walk behind mower that I have purchased when it is running properly. My first exmark 21 seemed to have quit a few problems with the carburator. The transmission also went out in the first year of use. I bought two more last year and didn't have any problems with them whatsoever. My mechanic has installed inline fuel filters in the fuel lines to help with carburator problems, which seems to help.
The wheels are very durable, the mower has a great, tough, balanced feel to it.
