(November 20, 2012)
— Exmark announced it is making a record donation to the Gage County United Way’s 2013 annual campaign. The $66,519.49 donation is a combination of pledges by Exmark employees and a donation by Exmark and the Toro Giving Program.
According to Emily Shockley at the Gage County United Way, Exmark is a strong supporter of the United Way fundraising effort for 2013, as it has been in the past. She credits the strong team of internal supporters -- Exmark program coordinators David Rayburn and Rod Benson -- for their diligent work on the campaign each year.
“The support we receive from Exmark is remarkable.”
“Exmark and the Toro Giving Program have donated to the Gage County United Way for a number of years, with record-setting donations made for the 2012 campaign and the current 2013 campaign.
The donation will benefit nine agencies that support the needs of people across Gage County. Agencies served include the American Red Cross, Gage County Christmas Wish List, Pioneer Foster Grandparents, Girl Scouts, Mother-to-Mother Ministry, YRI, YMCA, Salvation Army and Boy Scouts of America.
Exmark began raising funds in August and completed fundraising efforts October 31. Exmark United Way coordinator, Rod Benson said funds were raised through a combination of employee pledges, one-time donations and special events such as meals, a computer surplus sale, a garage sale (featuring Exmark clothing and merchandise), a jeans day badge sale, and assorted raffles.
“Our values define who we are and that includes being engaged in our local community where we work,” Benson said. “Through the Gage County United Way, our contributions impact the people who live and work in Gage County. The United Way is a great way to assist various organizations and help numerous people in our community. The vast majority of the funds stay right here in Gage County and the Gage County United Way has very low overhead expenses.”

• Exmark® Investment in Ergonomic Research Pays Off in New Custom Seat Design for New Lazer Z® X-Series Zero-Turn Rider (October 24, 2012)
|
News Releases:
For Immediate Release
Exmark® Investment in Ergonomic Research Pays Off in New Custom Seat Design for New Lazer Z® X-Series Zero-Turn Rider
- New 2013 custom seat design uses Exmark comfort research to improve on previous designs; new seat is standard on 2013 Lazer Z X-Series zero-turn rider models.
- Patented Iso-mount system provides 3-dimensional isolation of the seat from the rider frame.
- Unmatched comfort is delivered by Scissor Link ball-bearing suspension system, patented Elastomeric Vibration Control (EVC) stretch fabric and custom seat cushion foam.
Louisville,
KY
(October 24, 2012)
— With the goal of reducing operator fatigue and resulting losses in productivity, Exmark® today introduced its latest custom seat design to the industry at the 2012 GIE+EXPO trade show. The new seat is a standard feature on the new 2013 Lazer Z® X-Series zero-turn rider and will also be available as an accessory upgrade on the company’s other models.
The new Exmark custom seat introduces patented new technologies which are the result of the Exmark team’s study of pressure mapping of traditional zero-turn rider seats. This allowed engineers to more easily pinpoint peak pressure points and develop new solutions to reduce the vibration and pressure that leads to fatigue over the course of a work day.
According to Exmark Product Manager, John Swanson, the patented Iso-mount system is an excellent example of technology developed as a result of the company’s pressure mapping research. The Iso-mount system provides three-dimensional isolation of the entire seat assembly above the Lazer Z chassis, allowing for ½-inch vertical and ¾-inch of lateral travel.
“Our research showed us that, if we could do a better job at isolating the driver from the oscillations of the zero-turn chassis, it would allow us to greatly reduce the driver’s felt vibration and overall fatigue over a work day. That’s why our patented Iso-mount system allows both vertical and lateral travel, providing isolation on both planes. When a driver hits a bump, or drops into a hole, it deadens the blow with three-dimensional absorption.”
The seat frame of the new Exmark custom seat features a scissor link ball-bearing suspension system, which provides up to three-inches of smooth vertical travel. Exmark’s patented Elastomeric Vibration Control (EVC) stretch fabric provides up to 1.25-inches of travel and eliminates the need for metal springs in the seat, increasing not only comfort but also the long-term durability of the seat. Finally, Exmark sews custom plush foam into the top and back of the seat before adding a durable, good looking tri-tone synthetic cover and flip-up padded armrests.
The X-Series is the premier series in Exmark’s innovative Lazer Z family of zero-turn riding mowers. To learn more about the entire Lazer Z line, visit Exmark.com, or call (402) 223-6300.

• Exmark Delivers Increased Productivity, Reduced Fatigue with Enhanced Control System (ECS) Standard on 2013 Vantage® X-Series Stand-On Rider (October 24, 2012)
|
News Releases:
For Immediate Release
Exmark Delivers Increased Productivity, Reduced Fatigue with Enhanced Control System (ECS) Standard on 2013 Vantage® X-Series Stand-On Rider
- Enhanced Control System (ECS) improves ergonomics and comfort compared to typical stand-on mower controls, resulting in less fatigue over the course of a work day
- New reduced-friction pumps and upgraded wheel motors on X-Series models deliver smooth, consistent control and maintained ground speed of up to eight mph.
- Upgraded, high-capacity clutch provides added durability.
Louisville,
KY
(October 24, 2012)
— With the goal of offering the most ergonomic, productive stand-on mower for landscape professionals, Exmark today introduced its Enhanced Control System (ECS) equipped Vantage® X-Series stand-on riding mower at the 2012 GIE+EXPO trade show.
A logical extension of the company’s well-established Vantage stand-on rider line, the new X-Series incorporates ECS technology pioneered on the company’s large walk-behind mowers to place the operator’s hands and back in a more natural position, with fingertip control operation. The result is increased operator comfort and reduced overall fatigue at the end of a work day. The new system offers a similar overall layout to Exmark’s ECS-equipped large walk-behind models.
“We’ve learned through research and customer feedback that fatigue is one of the single largest contributors to productivity drop-off in workers,” noted Daryn Walters, Exmark Director of Marketing. “When stand-on riders came to the market, they were a significant advance in productivity for crews, but until now none had fully realized the benefits of natural hand positioning in reducing fatigue and actually increasing operator control.”
“The combination of ECS ergonomics and fingertip control maximizes both the maneuverability and productivity potential of the Vantage mowing platform.”
To give the Vantage X-Series mowers smoother, more consistent control, Exmark engineers incorporated new, reduced friction hydro pumps and high-capacity wheel motors, which allow maintained ground speeds of up-to 8 mph moving forward, and 4 mph in reverse.
The Vantage X-Series delivers a standout quality of cut, thanks to a choice of 48-, 52- or 60-inch UltraCut™ Series 4 cutting decks. Featuring Exmark’s patented flow-control baffles and optimized blade-tip speed, the UltraCut Series 4 cutting decks are designed for smooth clipping flow and provide uniform discharge. Decks are configured for standard side discharge through a molded discharge chute, with the option to bag or mulch.
Additional features of the Vantage X-Series stand-on riding mowers include:
- Powerful, reliable Kawasaki® FX651V and FX691V engines and Kohler® ECV730 and ECV740 EFI engine options.
- Heavy-duty cyclonic air filter is included with all engine options.
- Upgraded 200 ft.-lb. clutch offers added durability, as well as commonality across the Vantage line.
- Cutting height can be adjusted from 1.0-inch (25.4mm), to 5.0-inches (127mm) in .25-inch (6.4mm) increments, from the operator position.
The X-Series is the premier series in Exmark’s innovative Vantage family of stand-on riding mowers. To learn more about the entire Vantage line, visit Exmark.com, or call (402) 223-6300.

• Exmark® Introduces New Propane-Fueled EFI Lazer Z® and Turf Tracer® Models; Announces Support of PERC Initiatives (October 24, 2012)
|
News Releases:
For Immediate Release
Exmark® Introduces New Propane-Fueled EFI Lazer Z® and Turf Tracer® Models; Announces Support of PERC Initiatives
- New Kohler® engine with Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) gives Exmark® an industry-leading propane-fueled engine package that operates without conversions or aftermarket systems.
- New models offer significant fuel cost savings, extended runtimes and reduced emissions.
- Exmark® and PERC have teamed up to offer propane-powered Lazer Z® demos at select dealerships across the country.
- PERC is offering incentives of up to $1,000 toward the purchase of propane-fueled mowers.
Louisville,
KY
(October 24, 2012)
— With the introduction of its new propane-powered EFI Lazer Z S-Series zero-turn riding mower and Turf Tracer® S- and X-Series walk-behind mowers, Exmark has raised the bar on the efficiency and all-day productivity available from propane-powered mowers. Exmark is also supporting the Propane Education and Research Council (PERC) and its new support and education initiatives within the green industry.
“As the price of fuel continues to rise, Exmark is focused on equipment that can help landscape professionals realize lower overall fuel costs,” said Daryn Walters, Exmark Director of Marketing. “The new propane-fueled Kohler EFI engines provides superior fuel economy to deliver not only reduced fuel cost, but also extended run time on a single tank of fuel, when compared to conventional carbureted propane or gasoline engines.
“With current fuel prices, fuel costs can be reduced by up to 50-percent compared to conventional gasoline-powered mowers.”
The new Kohler EFI engines help Exmark engineers significantly improve the runtime and operating performance of its propane-fueled models. The increased fuel efficiency of the new engines allows up to 7.5 hours of operation on a single tank of fuel – enough for a typical full day of operation. Best-in-class startability is achieved with an ECU-controlled start up sequence which works without choke to provide quick starts. The closed-loop EFI system also optimizes engine settings in real time based on fuel, altitude and air quality measurements to maximize performance and efficiency, minimize emissions and completely eliminate carburetor-related hassles for the life of the engine.
Walters said that the new models allow contractors to realize their return on investment quicker than was previously possible on units that required conversions or aftermarket systems to run on propane.
“The efficiency of EFI and the relatively lower price of propane results in a much more compelling value statement than ever before. Landscape professionals will enjoy the green benefits of propane power – the reduced emissions and carbon footprint – with increased efficiency, reduced fuel costs, and the powerful productivity for which Exmark Lazer Z and Turf Tracer mowers are known.”
Exmark has also stepped-up its partnership with PERC to give customers greater access to new propane-fueled products, as well as the resources and support PERC offers. Through this partnership, during 2013, propane-fueled Exmark mowers will be placed at dealers across the country as demonstration units, giving users first-hand experience with the machines. The demo program coincides with the PERC Propane Mower Incentive Program, which offers up-to a $1,000 credit toward the purchase of a new propane-fueled mower.
“We believe that, by giving our customers direct experience with the new Exmark propane-powered machines, they will more clearly see the environmental and economic benefits the systems provide, especially when they factor in the purchase incentives available through PERC.”
The new Lazer Z S-Series EFI Propane, Turf Tracer S-Series EFI Propane and Turf Tracer X-Series EFI Propane will be available in spring 2013. Find complete specifications for each model at www.exmark.com/EFI_Propane.pdf or call (402) 223-6300. Learn more about the economic and environmental benefits of propane power at propanecouncil.org.

• Increase productivity, profitability with New Exmark® Commercial 30 Walk-Behind (October 24, 2012)
|
News Releases:
For Immediate Release
Increase productivity, profitability with New Exmark® Commercial 30 Walk-Behind
- 43-percent wider cut per pass than 21-inch mowers – cover more ground in less time
- Maneuverability and balance similar to a Commercial 21-inch model
- 3-in-1 cutting deck quickly changes from side-discharge, mulching or bagging without tools
- High-performance blades and deck design deliver superior cut quality contractors expect from Exmark
Louisville,
KY
(October 24, 2012)
— With the introduction of its Commercial 30 walk-behind at the 2012 GIE+EXPO trade show, Exmark® gives landscape professionals a new option that can significantly improve productivity compared to the typical 21-inch commercial walk-behind mowers they’re using today. With a 30-inch cut width, the new model offers 43-percent more cut area per pass, yet maneuverability and balance remain similar to a 21-inch model.
The Commercial 30 delivers enhanced productivity with the superior quality of cut thanks to its timed, two-blade, 4.6-inch deep 3-in-1 cutting deck. The deck design allows users to change from side discharge, to bagging or mulching, quickly and easily without tools, and it works in conjunction with the timed blade system and the design of the blades to provide optimal cut quality and reduced horsepower consumption in all three cutting modes.
“Our customers are excited about the Commercial 30 because it does many of the things they’ve been wanting in a small walk-behind, but haven’t been able to get until now,” said Exmark Director of Marketing, Daryn Walters. “It’s more productive, yet still easy to maneuver in tight spaces. It’s compact, so it transports easily on a trailer or in a truck. It’s cost-efficient, engineered to be durable and flexible to the conditions at-hand.
“The Commercial 30 can give contractors much of the productivity of a larger, more expensive walk-behind combined with the maneuverability and cost-effectiveness of a smaller mower.”
A standout feature of the reinforced structure, frame and cutting deck on the Commercial 30 is the patented front height adjustment system, designed to withstand years of commercial use without the need for ongoing service or repair. In addition, a single-point rear height adjuster design isolates the transmission and frame from damage due to impact loading, providing superior durability. One-half -inch steel wear bars, a 1-inch diameter bumper and metal side discharge cover are all designed for durability and cutting deck protection. Heavy-duty side braces and engine guard provide superior engine protection and increased frame durability.
The Commercial 30 features a positive drive transmission with infinitely-variable ground speed up to 4.2mph. The positive drive design couples left-and-right side drive wheels for maximum traction and the large, heavy-duty wet clutch transmission is custom-built for Exmark to provide increased service life. The self-tensioning belt drive to the transmission prolongs belt life and effectively eliminates the need for ongoing service adjustments.
The key to the two-blade deck drive system on the Commercial 30 is a simple timing belt system that maintains blade position and isolates the engine from shock load. Blade drivers incorporate a shear pin, which allows for simple service and replacement and also protects the timing system in the event of an impact. An access panel at the front of the mower allows users to easily inspect, clean or make adjustments to the system. Heavy-duty spindle assemblies utilize robust ball bearings, forged spindles and die-cast housings.
An optional high-performance mulch kit is available to provide enhanced mulching performance in especially demanding mulching conditions, such as wet, heavy grass or heavy leaf conditions. The kit can also act as a fill-reduction kit when operating in bagging mode, which reduces the number of times the bag is emptied.
“This type of setup (running a bagger with a fill-reduction kit) has proven to be very popular with quite a few of our customers,” Walters said.
Other features of the Exmark Commercial 30 include:
- Kawasaki® FJ180V engine.
- One-gallon remote fuel tank.
- 2.5 bushel (23 gallon) bag capacity.
- Precision sealed ball bearings in high-impact composite Nylon wheels with semi-pneumatic rubber tires. (Front: 9”x2.5”; Rear/Drive: 10”x3”)
- Safety Package includes Blade Brake Control (BBC) – allows the operator to disengage the cutting blade without stopping the engine.
- Mower includes bag, mulch plug and side-discharge chute.

- New deck offers the ability to trim on both sides.
- Innovative deck design offers more effective clipping control and increased cut quality with reduced power requirements compared to traditional rear discharge deck designs.
- Advanced baffle and blade design delivers reduced noise for quieter operation.
Louisville,
KY
(October 24, 2012)
— Today, Exmark® unveiled a new rear discharge deck option for its Lazer Z® DS-Series zero-turn riding mower. The new deck gives operators a number of important benefits, including increased clipping control, the ability to trim on both sides of the deck with superior finished cut quality, and quieter operation.
“While our traditional side discharge cutting decks have proven extremely popular, a number of our customers have specific needs that only a rear discharge deck will accommodate,” said Exmark Director of Marketing, Daryn Walters. “The new Exmark rear discharge deck meets the needs of these customers with an unmatched cut quality, even in heavy, tall grass and the ability to trim on both sides of the cutting deck.”
Exmark designed the new rear discharge deck with baffles and a counter-rotating blade design, which provides uniform, controlled clipping discharge and a superior quality of cut. The rear discharge design also reduces clipping over-processing, which reduces power requirements and allows the deck to easily handle tall grass conditions. In addition, the design of the baffle and blades contributes to a quieter system, compared to other deck designs.
The heavy-duty fabricated, welded deck construction features durable molded bumpers and Exmark’s Series 6 spindles to provide years of commercial durability in tough mowing conditions. An accessory Finish Cut baffle kit is available to reduce visible clippings on highly-manicured properties. The kit offers performance similar to a dedicated mulching deck, but with lower power requirements and sound output.

Exmark Redefines Smooth, Precise Control with 2013 Navigator
- Redesigned control interface, and upgraded hydro motors and pumps, offer 35-percent reduction in control force for reduced operator fatigue
- Upgraded control layout and hydro pumps provide improved control feel for more precise mower handling
- Exclusive fill-reduction system provides most versatile dedicated bagging machine available
Louisville,
KY
(October 24, 2012)
— Today at the GIE+EXPO trade show, Exmark unveiled significant revisions to its renowned Navigator dedicated bagging rider. The updates focused on giving Navigator enhanced control feel with reduced control effort, allowing for increased mowing precision and overall productivity, and a reduction in operator fatigue.
“Our customers drive us to help them raise the bar in a number of areas,” said Daryn Walters, Exmark Director of Marketing. “The distinctive properties the Navigator is designed to care for require a machine that not only delivers a more refined quality of cut, but one also capable of maneuvering more quickly and productively around the often highly-landscaped properties.”
“The significant updates to the 2013 Navigator demonstrate Exmark’s commitment to helping high-end landscape professionals exceed client expectations with industry-leading commercial-grade equipment that is more productive and easier to operate.”
To give the 2013 Navigator smoother, more precise control and increased mowing speeds, Exmark engineers incorporated the latest hydro-drive technology, including new, high-performance hydro motors and new reduced-friction hydro pumps, which are manufactured to Exmark’s specification to provide smooth, consistent control and long life in commercial use.
The updated FeatherTouch drive control system features a redesigned control interface that offers both reduced control force and a more consistent feel throughout the control travel. A new torsion spring design on the fingertip controls provides an optimal balance of spring tension and responsiveness, giving operators smoother, more precise control of the Navigator, with less required pressure input on the controls. The new handle design also offers additional adjustment area for increased comfort and ergonomics for a wider variety of operators.
Navigator’s exclusive fill-reduction system was developed by Exmark to enhance the versatility of its dedicated-bagging system. A standard feature on every Navigator, the system allows the operator to quickly and easily switch from dedicated bagging (100-percent bagging) to fill-reduction mode (75-percent bagging/25-percent mulching), which dramatically reduces the number of required stops to dump clippings. An optional mulching kit is also available.
Navigator’s 4 5/8-inch deep rear-discharge deck features a larger blower to pull through more air, which provides superior deck flow-through and cut quality. It incorporates a heavy-duty gear-driven spindle assembly, which delivers the durability landscape professionals demand. RED Technology Adds Efficiency to 2013 Kohler® EFI-Powered Exmark® Lazer Z X-Series Zero-Turn Riders
- RED technology offers defined performance modes for optimized efficiency, productivity, and engine life
- EFI/E-governor plus RED technology delivers dramatically better fuel economy than carbureted engine with mechanical governor, with improved engine performance
- On-board intelligence protects machine health through monitoring of key components such as engine and clutch
Louisville,
KY
(October 24, 2012)
— At the 2012 GIE+EXPO trade show, fuel prices are once again a hot topic as landscape professionals seek to reduce costs without sacrificing productivity. Engineers at Exmark had this in-mind when they developed the 2013 Exmark Lazer Z X-Series with Kohler EFI powered engine and Exmark’s RED technology. The new engine technology does not only reduce fuel consumption by up to 41-percent compared to carbureted models, but delivers improved engine response and performance in demanding mowing conditions.
At the heart of the engine’s responsiveness is an electronic governor, which offers a significant reduction in governor droop (Fig. 1), and helps maintain more consistent blade tip speed in varying conditions. The end result is a superior finished cut quality, according to Exmark Product Manager, John Swanson.
“When compared head-to-head, a spring-operated mechanical governor is much slower to respond to loading than is an electronic governor. By using an electronic governor in tandem with our RED on-board intelligence on EFI-equipped models, we’re able to deliver the fuel efficiency landscape professionals desire without compromising power or performance in the field.”
“Our testing reveals a substantial increase in engine responsiveness, especially in heavy, wet cutting conditions on RED-equipped mowers. Customers will of course enjoy the added fuel efficiency as well, and with user-selectable performance modes, they can choose the right mix of performance and efficiency for any conditions.”
The RED system includes defined performance modes (Fig. 2) that allow the operator to choose an appropriate level of performance for the task at-hand. This allows contractors to achieve maximum efficiency when conditions allow, such as in transport, or to maximize power when the conditions require. Performance modes are defined by user selection of a three-position rocker switch, combined with the position of the PTO switch.
Selecting Max mode gives the operator maximum power and performance, ideal for demanding cutting conditions. Efficient mode delivers increased fuel efficiency with excellent overall performance. This mode also delivers reduced emissions, noise and overall machine wear. Low mode is for wet conditions and is designed to reduce deck packing.
Enhanced Safety and Durability
The RED system includes a clutch saver feature, which extends clutch life by engaging at 2,750 RPM and disengaging at 2,500 RPM, regardless of throttle position. It also facilitates improved operator efficiency by allowing “on-the-fly” PTO engagement and disengagement. The system also monitors vital system components such as the engine temperature, oil pressure and clutch status and places the machine in “safe transport” mode (clutch disengaged, 2,500 RPM) when critical thresholds are exceeded. This prevents permanent damage to the machine and allows safe return for service.
Exmark is offering two RED-equipped Kohler EFI-powered Lazer Z X-Series models for 2013, including a model with an ECV940 and a 60-inch UltraCut™ Series-6 deck, and an ECV980 model with a 72-inch UltraCut Series-6 deck.
The Lazer Z X-Series leads the industry with features designed to make it more durable and easier-to-use by landscape professions, including a compact, heavy-duty welded unibody steel frame, high-capacity 12-gallon (45.4L) fuel tank and large diameter no-flat semi-pneumatic front caster tires. Exmark’s new 2013 Custom Ride seat is standard on all 2013 Lazer Z X-Series models. It offers unmatched comfort through the incorporation of multiple Exmark patented technologies. Exmark Donates $25,000 to Freeman Public Schools for New Playground
Play equipment helps community meet needs of growing school district
Adams,
NE
(July 03, 2012)
— Children in this small town 20 miles northeast of Beatrice have a new place to play, thanks to a $25,000 donation from Exmark and their employees who installed colorful, new playground equipment July 3.
The new playground fills a pressing need in the rapidly growing Freeman School District. Previously, children in a pre-school program from ages 2 to 5 years old had to walk about two city blocks to the elementary school playground, where the equipment was rated for 5- to 12-year-olds and was not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
“This new playground provides age-appropriate equipment for all of the community’s preschoolers, without excluding anyone,” said Rick Olson, vice president and general manager of Beatrice-based Exmark. “We are proud to help the Freeman School District, where so many of our employees’ children are students.”
The Freeman School District purchased property closer to the preschool program, and Exmark’s $25,000 donation supplied a play structure, surface, cement path and fence. Six Exmark employees braved blistering temperatures July 3 to install the equipment, which is rated for 2-to 5-year-olds and is ADA compliant.
Each year, the Exmark Community Giving Committee donates money for projects in the communities where Exmark employees live and work. The committee’s first donation, in 2006, created Roszell-Exmark Park, and its 2011 donation of $25,000 went to the new Beatrice Athletic Complex.
Exmark wanted donations to reach beyond Beatrice city limits, too, so they looked this year to the Freeman School District. While most Exmark employees live in Beatrice, the second highest number of employees reside in the Freeman School District.

Exmark Donates Three Lazer® Zs to Community Organizations
Annual giving program aims to help nonprofits successfully maintain their green spaces
Beatrice,
NE
(June 22, 2012)
— Last week, Exmark and the Toro Giving Program donated three Lazer® Z zero-turn mowers to local organizations in need of lawn-maintenance machines.
“Exmark and the Toro Giving Program are in a unique position to give back to the communities in which we work and play,” said Rick Olson, general manager of Exmark. “These organizations are very deserving and we’re proud to help them.”
The three nonprofit organizations—Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation, Blue Springs Cemetery Association, and the Odell American Cemetery Association—will each use the mowers to maintain their green spaces and manage rising lawn care costs more effectively.
- Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation will use their Lazer Z for the more than 20 acres surrounding the newly built hospital.
- The Blue Springs Cemetery Association is responsible for maintaining the community’s more than 150-year-old cemetery that covers more than 12 acres.
- The Odell American Cemetery will use their Lazer Z as a cost-effective solution to hiring sometimes expensive grounds crews.
President of the Blue Springs Cemetery Association Gale Hardin said his group would use the new mower to replace one that was ruined by a fire last year. At an event last week, he said “This really fits the ticket for our cemetery.”
Each mower is valued at nearly $10,600.
